DAVIES , JOHN (‘ John Davies, Taihirion ’; 1825 - 1904 ), Welsh Independent minister ;

b. in Morriston, Glam. He was ordained in 1851 as the minister of churches at Taihirion and Efail Isaf, Glam. He instituted a new church at Bronllwyn in 1858 . He gave up the pastorate of Taihirion in 1893 and that of Bronllwyn shortly after. He d. Sept. 16, 1904 . He remained the minister of Efail Isaf until the end of his life and was buried in the cemetery of Tabernacl , Efail Isaf .

Although John Davies was a prominent member of his denomination and one of the directors of the London Missionary Society , his influence was felt principally in his own region and he was known as Esgob y Fro (the bishop of the community ). He was active in promoting education and mainly due to his efforts, a British school was set up at Llantwit Fardre and he was for many years a member of the board of Pentyrch school . He published Bras Llinelliad Hanesyddol o Gyfundeb Annibynol Dwyreiniol Morganwg in 1879 .
