took an interest in him, and he became his
private secretary
for a period; he
translated
into
Welsh
the principal's
Davies Lecture
,
The God-man
. He visited
Germany
and learned
German
to a fair level. He returned to
Anglesey
and was ord. in
1897
.
Between 1901 and 1923
he
published a series of eight or nine commentaries on New Testament books
which proved to be very popular in Sunday schools. The
Doctrine of Atonement
was his field of study over many years and he delivered the
Davies Lecture
on that subject in
1945
, publishing it in
1948
under the title
Grym y groes
. The
University of Princetown
,
U.S.A.
, conferred on him a
D.D.
degree for his essays on the doctrine as discussed in that volume. He d.
25 Aug. 1953
at
Amlwch
, 91 years old.
