Born in 1867, son of Captain O. and Elizabeth Roberts, Porthmadog, Caernarfonshire. He was brought up in Porthmadog and was educated there and at Menai Bridge Grammar School. He began to preach in his teens and after being accepted as an itinerant preacher he was accepted, in 1888, as a candidate for the ministry in the Wesleyan Methodist Church. At the end of his training at Didsbury College, Manchester, in 1891, he was appointed a minister on the Abergele circuit. He was ordained in 1904, on completion of his term of probation, and he subsequently served the Tre-garth, Caernarfon, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Llangollen, Conwy, Tywyn and Bangor circuits. In 1917 he was elected supervisor of the Book Agency in Bangor, where he remained for 21 years. He contributed articles regularly to the Gwyliedydd Newydd, Y Winllan, and Yr Eurgrawn, which he edited for a short period. He was the author of a number of books: Llyfr y Proffwyd Amos (1924), Pobol Capel Nant y Gro (1914), and Bywyd Iesu Grist i'r ieuainc (1937), and he was the biographer (1934) of Dr. Hugh Jones (1837 - 1919). On behalf of the Wesleyans, he assisted in the publication of the joint hymnal of the two Methodist denominations in 1927, 1929. Besides supervising the bookshop, he also served in some Wesleyan district posts, and in 1920 he was president of the Wesleyan Methodist Assembly. In the same yr. he was elected a member of Bangor City Council, an Alderman for the last nine years of his association with that Council. He was mayor of the city, 1935-37. As a supernumerary minister he continued to live in Bangor, where he was highly respected. He married Margaret Jane Williams (died 29 May 1939) of Caernarfon, and they had two daughters and a son. He died 25 October 1948, 81 years old, and was buried in Llanbeblig churchyard, Caernarfon.
