Born 21 May 1857 at Rumney, Monmouthshire, son of David Price and Levia Phillips Morgan. The family moved to Pwllgwilym near Cefn-bedd-Llywelyn, and later at Builth. He was educated at Builth Endowed School, and afterwards he went to Aberystwyth college for a music course under Dr. Joseph Parry and he received tuition at the Tonic Sol-fa College of Music. He won many prizes for composing tunes and singing (baritone) at eisteddfodau. He was appointed conductor of Builth Choral Society, and the choir won prizes at the national eisteddfod held at Liverpool, 1897, and at Blaenau Ffestiniog, 1898, and also at other important eisteddfodau. He composed music for the ' Te Deum ', and ' The Lord's Prayer '. His tunes ' Treflys ' and ' Dyfed ' became popular, whilst his tune ' Cefn-bedd-Llewelyn ' is still sung and is included in most hymnals. Anthems and a part-song by him were published in Y Cerddor. He became organist, choirmaster, and elder at Alpha Presbyterian church, Builth, duties which he carried out until his death. Under his baton the choir performed several works of the masters. He was a member of the joint committee for the Church Hymnary, and a member of Breconshire Education Committee. He died 8 February 1942, and was buried in Builth cemetery.
