LEWIS , DAVID EMRYS ( 1887 - 1954 ), poet and journalist ;

b. in 1887 at Machynlleth, Mont. , and educated at schools in the town. He began his journalistic work with the Montgomeryshire County Times . In 1916 he moved to Port Talbot as a representative of the Cambrian Daily Leader , and later joined the staff of the Western Mail . He was also a reporter for other papers in south Wales . He won the crown at Neath national eisteddfod in 1918 for his pryddest ‘ Mynachlog Nedd ’. His wife, Margaret , was from Machynlleth and they had two sons. He suffered a grievous illness during his last years and d. at Gendros , Swansea , 12 Mar. 1954 aged 67.
