Born in May 1871 at Welford, Northamptonshire, where his father, ' Berwron ', was a farm bailiff, but in 1875 the family moved to Llosg-yr-odyn, Y Gaerwen, Anglesey. He was apprenticed to the printer's trade at the Bangor office of the North Wales Chronicle in 1887; then in 1903 he succeeded Hugh Edwards as editor of Y Clorianydd, the Anglesey weekly paper, at Llangefni, and held the post for 48 years. He was adept at writing englynion and competed at the national eisteddfod every year; he won the prize at Llandybïe national eisteddfod in 1944 for an englyn to the serpent: ' one of the poorest I ever made '. He died 18 September 1953.
