He spent some time at the Pontypridd Academy before his admission to the college and the university at Bangor in 1900, where he took an honours degree in Hebrew. He won the Dean Edwards prize and the George Osborne Morgan scholarship, and then proceeded to Leipzig to pursue a further course of study. Witton Davies as professor of Hebrew at the Baptist College, and in 1923 followed Silas Morris as principal of the college. He published many articles, a commentary on the Book of Amos (1924), and was one of the assistant-editors of Y Geiriadur Beiblaidd (1926). He also published a useful handbook on Old Testament religion (Llawlyfr ar grefydd yr Hen Destament, 1928). He was president of the Arfon Baptist association, and he rendered valuable service to his denomination over many years in the churches of north Wales. He married Annie Humphreys, 18 September 1907.
