Born 31 May 1898 in Gellilenor Fawr, Llangynwyd, Glamorganshire, youngest son of Benjamin and Gwenllian Evans -the mother being of the stock of David Morris (1787 - 1858), Hendre. He was educated in Maesteg elementary and county schools. He began working on his father's farm before becoming a school-teacher for a period. He joined the army during World War I, and at the end of the war went to the University College, Aberystwyth (where he gained an honours degree in philosophy) and began preaching. He completed his education in the theological colleges at Aberystwyth and Bala. He was ordained in 1927, and served in the ministry in Rock Ferry (1927-30), Cathedral Road, Cardiff (1931-36), Trinity, Swansea (1936-39), and Charing Cross Road, London (1939-58). In 1927 he married Enyd Jane Jones, daughter of Edward Jones ('Iorwerth Ddu'), minister, Maesteg, and they had two sons. He died 23 July 1958.

He was a refined and powerful preacher in both English and Welsh, and consequently received many calls for his services throughout Wales. He was chairman of the Union of Free Churches of England and Wales (1957-58). He wrote in Y Goleuad and Y Drysorfa, and in 1951 published a history of the first hundred years of Charing Cross Road church.
