Son of Lewis Lloyd of Maes-y-porth, attorney at law, and Anne, his wife, he was christened at Llangeinwen, 26 May 1728. On 11 January 1774 he married Margaret Thomas, at Llansadwrn, Anglesey, parish church. In 1793 he served as high sheriff for Anglesey. He took a keen interest in Welsh literature and genealogy, and Wynnstay MS. 2, NLW MS 560B , NLW MS 1256D , NLW MS 1258C , and NLW MS 1260B , and Bangor MS. 5944 were once in his possession. His name is also found in iarth MS 160 . B.M. Add. MS. 15010 contains genealogies copied from a work in his possession, and the pedigrees found in Bangor MSS. 6946-7020 may have been compiled by him. He also gained some repute as a poet, and examples of his compositions and translations can be seen in Bangor MSS. 5944 and 5947. Poems addressed to him are found in Cardiff MS. 3.3, NLW MS 3060D , and Bangor MSS. 6 and 5947. He was buried at Llangeinwen 21 August 1801.
