christened 9 October 1756, son of Edward Williams of the township of Ledbrook Major, Northop, Flintshire, and Ann his wife. He matriculated at Oxford from Christ Church, 23 May 1776, and took the degree of B.A. in 1780, proceeding to the degree of M.A. in 1783. After his ordination he spent some time as chaplain of Christ Church, returning to Wales in 1790, when he was instituted (4 May) to the vicarage of Bangor. He was also master of Friars school, Bangor [ 1790-1802 ]. He took the degrees of B.D. and D.D. in 1802. On 27 October 1802 he was appointed rector of Llanbedrog with Llangïan and Llanfihangel Bachellaeth, and also archdeacon of Merioneth; on 1 July 1809, he resigned the archdeaconry, taking in its place the prebend of Penmynydd. This in turn he resigned, receiving instead, on 21 November 1818, the vicarage of Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch in the Vale of Clwyd. In 1820 his son, Edward, succeeded him there; but Peter Williams retained the living of Llanbedrog until his death on 20 February 1837, at Llanbedrog, where he was buried 25 Feb. He had a son Edward, and another, Cyril. Peter Williams preached a sermon, which was afterwards published, before the University of Oxford on Ascension Day, 1786. He also published a number of works, including A Short Vindication of the Established Church (Oxford, 1803); four volumes of Welsh sermons (Dolgelley, 1813-14); and an edition of Charles Edwards's Y Ffydd Ddiffuant (Dolgelley, 1824).
