third son of John Twisleton of Barley Hall, Yorkshire. He served under general Mytton; took part in the siege and capture of Denbigh castle, whereof he was made governor in 1647. Shortly afterwards he married Mary Glyn, daughter and heiress of William Glyn of Lleuar,, Caernarfonshire, and great-great-granddaughter of William Glyn ' the Sergeant ' (see the article Glyn of Glynllifon). Twisleton was active in suppressing the various risings in North Wales on behalf of king Charles I, and was present at the skirmish on Y Dalar Hir, Llandygai, 5 June 1648, where Sir John Owen of Clenennau was overcome and captured. He was also a member of the High Court of Justice formed for the trial of king Charles, as well as of several commissions appointed by Parliament to deal with sequestrations, etc., in North Wales. He was appointed Member of Parliament for Anglesey in Cromwell ' Parliaments of 1654 and 1656 as well as in the Parliament of 1659. At the Restoration he settled at Lleuar, and it does not appear that he was disturbed for his activities during the Interregnum. He died 12 May 1667, and was buried at Clynnog, where his tomb is still preserved. His wife died in 1676. Their son,

GEORGE TWISLETON,

married Margaret, daughter of William Griffith of Cefn Amwlch, and was justice of the peace for the county, as well as the sheriff in 1682-3. He died 26 December 1714. He was followed in the estate by his son

GEORGE TWISLETON,

who married Barbara Jackson, London (died 22 December 1732), whose daughter Mary married captain William Ridsdale of Ripon, who was killed at the battle of Dettingen, 1743, and who had disposed of the Lleuar estate to Sir Thomas Wynn of Glynllifon.
