, and a brother of
Evan
Rees

Dyfed
, q.v.)
. He removed to
Aberdare
with his parents when 9 years of age, and then to
Ystrad Rhondda
in
1877
. He served as a
colliery official
at
Bodringallt
for the rest of his life. He was prominent as an
educationalist
, and served on the
Rhondda School Board
for many years. Attaining eminence as a
poet
in his youth, he was a very successful competitor on all metres in the national eisteddfod during the last thirty years of his life. At the
Liverpool national eisteddfod
in
1900
he was awarded as many as six prizes in various competitions. He published

. Many of his poems and essays appeared in
