The entry in the Bangor (Caernarfonshire) parish register recording her christening under 6 January 1728/9, describes her as daughter of Bulkeley Hughes (died 1740?), cleric, and Mary his wife; the father became vicar of Bangor, 2 June 1713, and was instituted to the living of Edern on 17 January 1722/3. She married Penny, and lived in London (Bloomsbury Square), where all her works were published. These are - Anningait and Ajutt … A Greenland Tale Inscribed to Mr. Samuel Johnson, 1761; Select Poems from Mr. Gesner's Pastorals, 1762; Poems with a Dramatic Entertainment, 1771; A Pastoral Elegy, 1773?; Poems, 1780 (a reprint of the 1771 work). Thomas Pennant refers to the 1780 work in his Tours in Wales, ii, whilst Richard Morris, one of the Morris brothers of Anglesey, knew of the authoress. One of her poems is entitled ' Taliesin's poem to Elphin.'
