He and his brother, Uchtryd , were the reputed sons of Edwin ap Gronw (a great-great-grandson of Hywel Dda (q.v.) by Iwerydd , half-sister of Bleddyn ap Cynfyn (q.v.) ). Though he assisted earl Hugh of Chester in the latter's abortive expedition against Gwynedd in 1098 , his daughter, Angharad , m. Gruffudd ap Cynan (q.v.) . His son, Gronw , was the father of Christina (q.v.) , second wife of Owain Gwynedd (q.v.) . He should not be confused with his father's cousin — also Owain ab Edwin — of the main royal line of Deheubarth .
