Born at Henbant, Lledrod, Cardiganshire, in 1769, the eldest son of David Morris (1744 - 1791) and Mary, his wife. 'In 1774 he moved with his father to Tredreyr parish where he was given a little education by Daniel Davies, the local curate. He opened his own school at Trecastle, Brecknock, c. 1786, and experienced a spiritual awakening under the ministry of the Methodist exhorter, Dafydd William Rhys. He joined the Methodist society at Trecastle and began to exhort c. 1788. He returned to his own neighbourhood and, on his father's death in 1791, undertook the work of supervising the Methodist flock of Tŵr-gwyn and the surrounding districts. He married, 1792, Mary Jones of Dinas, Betws Ifan, and with her dowry built a new house at Blaen-y-wern, where he lived from 1804 until his death 15 August 1825. He was buried beside his father. He was regarded as one of the most powerful Methodist preachers of his time and his ministry left an indelible impression on his congregations. He was also considered to be a safe and reliable leader in the Methodist Associations. He took a prominent part in the movement for ordaining Methodist exhorters, and was one of the first batch of ministers to be ordained at the Llandeilo Association, 1811. He was also one of those who drew up the Methodist Cyffes Ffydd (Confession of Faith) in 1823.
