Born in the parish of Cilrhedyn, Carmarthenshire. By trade a stonemason, he was also a competent musician who performed good service to the community by holding music classes in various districts. Two of his hymn-tunes, ' Cannon Street ' and ' Manchester,' were published in Haleliwia Drachefn, 1855. He died 3 October 1871 at Ffynnondrain, parish of Newchurch, near Carmarthen.
