shoemaker

pastor
of the
Church of the Disciples of Christ

Richard
Lloyd
was apprenticed to his father and ultimately followed him both in the pastorate and in the business. He was ordained joint
pastor
with
William
Williams
in
April 1859
. In the same year his sister
Elizabeth
m. a young
schoolmaster
,
William
George
; the latter d. in
1864
and
Richard
Lloyd
took his sister and her three children under his wing and from that day devoted his life to them. There were two boys and a girl, one of the two boys being
David
Lloyd George
(the
prime minister
). The uncle superintended the education of the two boys, helped them to become
solicitors
, and when
David
Lloyd George
entered
Parliament
, acted as his wise and inspiring counsellor.
Lloyd George
at all times acknowledged his profound debt to his uncle. After giving up his
shoemaking
business he helped the two young
lawyers
in their office. He was a man of exceptional gifts of intellect and character. He never married. He d.

, and was buried in the
Criccieth
public cemetery on
3 March
.
