IDWAL FOEL (‘ the Bald ’ ; d. 942 ), king of Gwynedd ; son of Anarawd ap Rhodri Mawr (q.v.) . He became ruler of Gwynedd in 916 , and after some resistance accepted the overlordship of the West-Saxon monarchy . After his death during an unsuccessful revolt against the English , in 942 , his sons were expelled, and authority passed to his cousin, Hywel Dda (q.v.) . Though two of these sons, Iago and Ieuaf (qq.v.) were in time restored, his blood was transmitted to the principal dynasty of medieval Gwynedd through a younger son, Meurig (q.v.) .
