HUW BODWRDA or HUW ap RICHARD ap SION ap MADOG of Bodwrda, Caernarfonshire (fl. 1566), gentleman, bard, and patron of bards

Name: Huw Bodwrda
Child: John Wyn ap Hugh
Gender: Male
Occupation: gentleman, bard, and patron of bards
Home: Bodwrda
Area of activity: Philanthropy; Poetry; Royalty and Society
Author: Robert (Bob) Owen

Two cywyddau by him survive in which he engages in mock controversy with Ieuan (Ifan) Dylyniwr, harpist; he also wrote an englyn urging the bards who came to Bodwrda to write to the 'Worthyes' on the partition in the Tŷ Canol at Bodwrda. It is fairly certain that he kept a family bard and a family harpist at his home. From the elegy upon him, composed by Wiliam Llŷn it would appear that he was buried on Bardsey Island. He was the father of the John Wyn ap Hugh who was accused, by one Morgan ab Ieuan, of piracy in and around Bardsey (c. 1567).
