HAWYS (HAWISE) GADARN (‘ the Hardy ’) ( 1291 - ante 1353 ),

daughter of Owen de la Pole by Joanna Corbet , and granddaughter of Gruffydd ap Gwenwynwyn . As heiress of her only brother, Gruffydd , who d. in 1309 , she became a ward of the Crown , being given in marriage, together with the barony of Powys , to John Cherleton or Charlton in the same year. She had two sons — John , second lord Charlton of Powys , and Owen who d. without issue. Hawise was probably buried at the house of the Grey Friars , Shrewsbury .
