Born 29 December 1861, son of Evan and Ellen Evans, Adwy-ddu, Penrhyndeudraeth, Meironnydd. He received his earliest musical training at classes conducted by John Roberts, Portmadoc, and by studying Gramadeg Cerddoriaeth (by Alawydd) and other works. His ' Can y Cryd ' and a duet, ' Mae'r byd yn llawn o ganu,' became popular, whilst his part-songs, ' Trig gyda mi,' ' Oleuni Mwyn,' and ' Tylwyth Teg,' also attained a wide circulation. Both at Corwen, where he lived for a time, and at Penrhyndeudraeth, he conducted successful choirs; he also took part in the Harlech musical festivals. He was much in demand as music adjudicator and as conductor of musical festivals. He died 13 December 1912 and was buried in Nazareth burial ground, Penrhyndeudraeth.
