ELLIS , MORGAN ALBERT ( 1832 - 1901 ), Welsh-American preacher and editor ;

b. 19 Sept. 1832 , at Melin-y-coed , near Machynlleth . Although his parents were in humble circumstances, he received help which enabled him to be well educated. He was master of a national school which was under the patronage of Sir Robert Williames Vaughan , bart. , Nannau, Mer. (q.v.) , and afterwards became the first headmaster of the British school at Nant Peris, Caerns. In 1853 he emigrated to the U.S.A. He lived for a while in Pennsylvania , in Utica, N.Y. , where he was editor of Y Gwyliedydd , and in New York for a period, editing Y Drych a'r Gwyliedydd . He removed from New York to West Bangor, Pa. , where he kept a school and began to preach ; he was ordained in 1865 . He ministered to Calvinistic Methodist churches in various places: Ebensburg, Pa. , Hyde Park, Pa. , Bangor, Pa. , Cincinatti , Ohio , etc.; he then went westwards and ministered in San Francisco and in Coal Creek , Colorado . When the General Assembly of the Calvinistic Methodists was formed in Columbus , Ohio , in 1869 , Ellis became its first secretary . He edited or co-edited Y Cyfaill , Baner America , and Blodau yr Oes a'r Ysgol ; he was part-owner of Blodau yr Oes . He d. 1 June 1901 at Pueblo, Colorado .
