In 1825 he m. Anne , daughter of John Lloyd , Allt-yr-odyn , and through his marriage inherited that estate. He m., secondly, in 1857 , Elizabeth Bluett , the only child of Thomas Bluett Hardwicke of Tytherington Grange, Glos.
He was a J.P. and D.L. for Cardiganshire and Carmarthenshire , and high sheriff of Cardiganshire in 1845 . In 1855 he was elected M.P. for the Cardigan boroughs , but he resigned at the general election two years later. He was a Conservative in politics and a zealous member of the Church of England .
During the Rebecca riots he was the chief opposer of the rioters in the Llandysul district. He worked to secure a railway from Carmarthen to Llandysul and succeeded in his efforts.
He d. 21 March 1860 , at the age of 59 years.
