son of John Davies of Crugiau, Llanbadarnfawr, Aberystwyth, joined the army in 1791, fought on the Continent (1794, 1799), in the West Indies (1796), and in the Peninsular War, distinguishing himself particularly at Salamanca (1812). He married Jane, daughter of Matthew Davies, of Cwm Cynfelyn, retired to Tan-y-bwlch, Aberystwyth, and died there 10 May 1828, aged 51.

Jane Davies's sister, Anne, was the mother of Isaac Williams the Tractarian.
