DANIEL , DAVID ROBERT ( 1859 - 1931 ), publicist ;

b. at Ty'n-y-bryn , Llandderfel , 6 May 1859 , son of Robert Daniel and Jane , daughter of Robert Roberts. He was educated at the grammar school and the Independent College , Bala , and, after a visit to America , became in 1887 assistant organizer in North Wales for the United Kingdom Alliance . In 1896 he was appointed secretary of the North Wales Quarry-men's Union , and served for a period from 1889 as an alderman of the Caernarvonshire county council . Subsequently he entered the Civil Service , served as secretary of the royal commission on coast erosion and, later, as assistant secretary to the Welsh Church Commissioners . He was an intimate friend of T. E. Ellis (q.v.) and took a prominent part in Welsh political life during the latter years of the 19th cent. He also contributed various articles to the Welsh press, including appreciations of O. M. Edwards (q.v.) in Cymru during 1921 ; and he left in manuscript an account of the early life of T. E. Ellis. He d. 14 Sept. 1931 and was buried at Cefnddwysarn .
