Born 11 September 1827 in Liverpool, he was in business there and afterwards as a brewer at Mold. He wrote in various periodicals, frequented eisteddfodau, and edited the transactions of the Mold Cymreigyddion Eisteddfod of 1851. In 1878, a national testimonial to him was set on foot, but he diverted the money to the foundation of a scholarship at University College, Aberystwyth.
