The family having moved to
Cwmbwrla
, near
Swansea
, the son began when quite young to
work in the iron-works
there. He
studied music
, mastered the
Tonic Sol-fa system
of notation, and
instituted classes in the elements of music
which were held in various chapels. He
wrote anthems
(e.g. ‘
Dyddiau dyn sydd fel glaswelltyn
’), hymn-tunes, and tunes for children. He d.
13 June 1897
and was buried at
Aberavon
.
